Cellux AB currently has two different lighting unit designs

  Type V:
Separate vertically mounted solar panels and an extended arm. This type is designed for northern climates. Vertical mounting keeps the larger panel free from ice and snow.
Type H: (Side view):
Integrated unit mounted directly on support post. This unit is designed for more southernly climates.

  Type H: (Top view):
Integrated top mounted solar panel. Includes protective wires to keep birds away.

Product Highlights

Background
Cellux AB has designed and developed a solar cell powered lighting system. The system is designed as an environmentally sound and cost effective alternative to conventional outdoor lighting. The energy collected by the solar panel is stored in a maintenance free battery. White Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are used as the light source rather than incandescent or fluorescent sources, as they require less than 10% of the energy otherwise needed.

Environmentally friendly installation
Cellux ABs light fixture is designed to be mounted on posts used for conventional outdoor lighting, either galvanized steel or wooden, however the fixture can also be mounted on a wall or other available structure. As there is no need for an external power source, costly installation of cabling and other grid installation costs are completely absent. Selecting Cellux ABs lighting system keeps the landscape free from wiring.

No power costs
Our LEDs use ¼ W in low power mode when no one is within range and 1,5 W in full power mode when people are in the vicinity. This low power drain allows the fixture to statistically be able to function for 20 nights and days from a fully charged battery. The LEDs used in the product have a lifespan of more than 100 000 hours according to their manufacturer. One hour of sun on a winter day gives enough energy to power the fixture for two dark evenings and nights. The battery is charged even during overcast days. The energy from an overcast day is enough to power the system in low power mode for one night. The battery is sealed and maintenance free. As the cost of energy increases the motivation will increase to use free energy from the sun.

Energy saving functionality
The solar panel is used to charge the battery. As darkness falls the low power mode starts. In this mode two white diodes light up. A person moving in the vicinity of the fixture is sensed by the motion detector. This detection initializes a one minute period in the full power mode. During this initialization, a patented process occurs whereby a radio transmission in the license free 433 MHz band activates full power mode in lamps ahead of and behind the current fixture. The full power mode is active for one minute unless reactivation occurs through motion detection or wireless signaling, in such case the full power mode period is extended for another full minute. The total effect in full power mode is 1,5W. This can be compared to a conventional 7W fluorescent light. The white diodes provide light level comparable to the light of a full moon. Low power mode is active all night providing a visible clue of the availability of lighting. This mode is switched off at dawn. The wireless control innovation is protected by Swedish patent number 521 058

Battery charge control
The Cellux lighting system includes a charge regulator to protect the battery from overcharging and to optimally keep the battery as fully charged as possible. The regulator also protects the battery from deep discharge. If a potential deep discharge situation should arise all lighting is switched off. When the solar panel again provides power and the battery charge level increases the system resumes normal function. The electronic charge regulator is designed specifically for solar panel systems and includes temperature compensation for the characteristics of the sealed maintenance free battery. As the fixture will use at most 5% of the battery capacity per cycle (day), the battery should be able to fuction for 4000 cycles. This means a potential battery lifespan of 10 years.

Technical data

  • 28W solar panel (67x33cm). Made in Sweden. Vertically mounted.
  • Sealed maintenance free battery 12V 12Ah. 10 year lifespan.
  • Light source: 20 high intensity white LEDs 100 000 hour lifespan.
  • Light level evenly spaced between posts, approximately corresponding to a full moon.
  • Total of 1/4W in low power mode, 1,5W in full power mode.
  • Patented wireless signalling to nearby fixtures saves energy during nighttime hours. Swedish patent number 521 058.
  • Electronic temperature compensated charge regulation.
  • Fully charged battery provides approximately 200 hours of light time, corresponding to 20 winter nights.
  • Battery is charged even during overcast days. The energy from an overcast day is enough to power the system in low power mode for one night.
